Japan’s Prime Minister Sends a Message of Condolence to the Victims of the Earthquake and Tsunami in the Independent State of Samoa and American Samoa

On behalf of the people and Government of Japan, the Prime Minister, Dr. Yukio Hatoyama has expressed great sadness, and sorrow for the Earthquake and Tsunami victims and their families in the Independent State of Samoa and American Samoa. On 30th September 2009, in a Condolence Message addressed to the President of the United States of America, Honorable Mr. Barack Obama and Samoa’s Prime Minister, His Excellency, Mr. Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi, Prime Minister, Dr. Hatoyama conveyed Japan’s deep sympathies for the people of American Samoa and the Independent State of Samoa.

Prime Minister, Dr. Hatoyama has also indicated in the said Condolence Message addressed to Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Malielegaoi that Japan stands ready to support Samoa as much as possible for the earliest recovery from the disaster.

On the same day, Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Katsuya Okada also sent a Condolence Message to United States Secretary of State, Mrs Hilary Clinton, conveying his deepest sympathy to the families and friends of those who may have lost their lives by the disaster and to the Government of the United States of America and citizens of American Samoa.
